So tomorrow is 현충일 (Hyeonchung Il, Memorial Day), the day to remember the dead from the North-South War (Korean War). This also means a day off work. Well, except it's on Saturday, so no additional day off for me! I had the same problem a month ago with Buddha's Birthday.
I asked my director about this problem today. He said that until a couple years ago, Koreans would work on Saturday morning. So although the government has given people Saturday off in addition to Sunday, they have not updated the holiday laws to move the observance to Friday or Monday as they would in America... |
